Initially started of as a Brabus ForFour, Al Young who owns The Smart Club was persuaded to allow Tockwith Motorsport to strip and rebuild it to compete in the Brit Car 24 Hour Race at Silverstone.
After that the car was run by Al on the road and has been driven all over Europe promoting The Smart Club here in the UK.
S2Smarts purchased the car and have started to strip and rebuild the car ready for competing in the Modern Classics Championship this year.
Interior has a full bolt in approved Roll Cage which is being welded in to add even further stiffness to the chassis. Further means of reducing weight is also being looked at. Corbeau seat and Harness are used for the Driver with a complete new Dash from Race Technology which incorporates a data logging system. Certain parts of the system has been rewired to give a different starting system and control over lights etc and a full FIA approved Extinguisher system has been fitted for safety for the Driver.
The Engine has been replaced from when purchased with another Brabus Engine with a Paddle Clutch and strengthened Gearbox Internals. Running a Roller Bearing T28 Turbo and Intercooler with the original Mandrel Bent Exhaust system now modified with a different exhaust box and to accommodate the new Turbo. Injectors again supplied by ASNU and the tuning by Tony of Tune4Performance on our in house rolling road.
The chassis has been further modified from when it arrived to have Bilstein Suspension replace the Gaz system on there, with Bilstein looking at developing a Coilover kit for both front and rear in the near future. A rear Anti Roll bar has been added and Nylon Bushes added where necessary. The brakes are currently Hi-Spec 6 pots on the front and single pots on the rear. The wheels are 16” Compomotive and will be shod with Yokohama Rubber.
Externally, the body work which was showing signs of wear has been completely re-sprayed by Automaster GB in the S2Smarts Colour scheme of Black and Red. The graphics again will be laid by Tony.
